One of the biggest problems for buses is merging into traffic from a stop, whether at a red light or a bus stop. A queue jump is a special signal only for buses that would go green 2 seconds before the rest of traffic goes green. This window of 2 seconds is enough of a head start for buses to successfully merge without having to fight traffic to do so. They also have the potential to improve bus travel time. A perfect example is at the intersection of Figueroa and 8th Street downtown.
Queue jump signals should be prioritized for Rapid buses and lines with high ridership.
