We don't need to reinvent the wheel. What we need to do is improve EVERYTHING. But that sort of thing needs the support of the people, and we can't seem to get the necessary support in LA. There are too many people who are afraid to get out of their cars -- they've never been on a bus or rail line and they think it's beneath them. It's become a kind of social class definer. Until we can get the majority of Angelenos to accept mass transit as a way of life for THEMSELVES (and not just for OTHER PEOPLE) we're never going to move forward. So what do we have to do? The City of LA has to be willing to subsidize mass transit to the extent of very cheap fares, sometimes FREE FARES and more frequent transit, even if buses are not very full. This is how you entice people onto buses and rail! Make people stop saying the transit system doesn't work! It may take a few years of heavy spending, but it's an investment in the future of Los Angeles.
