I understand this idea would require cars being taken off the road and something to be worked out for residents living along these roads (parking etc) but if we could take enough cars off the roads we could shut down, say every 5th street and turn it into a greenbelt park with a special bike only path. With our great weather and relatively flat layout LA could really become a great biking town like many in Europe. Combine that with the ability to bring your bike on the light rail for longer journeys you could get around in style. Biking is way more enjoyable whey you are completely separated from the auto traffic, and riders can actually cover a lot of ground as long as they don't have to stop too frequently. The greenspaces would also be like neighborhood parks, for local residents. Think commons of London. And I'm sure residents wouldn't mind living along one. What do you think?
