It is clear, attempts (in the mid-20th century) to create the Automobile as the main mode of transportation has misearbly failed. Traffic nightmares and lack of other choices - due to inadequate mass transit - is our sad current situation. The economy and our lifestyle have been severely affected as a result. It is time for a MAJOR investment in mass transit; our public transportation needs a serious overheaul in order to be reliable and competitive. And I'm not just talking about improving bus service (our current bus system is a failure; it's too infrequent, takes forever to get to the destination, and is worse than bus service in 3rd world countries). We need to create a citywide METRO-RAIL network, mainly consisting of subway and light-rail routes. Only then (AND ONLY THEN) will Angelinos truly be able to part with their cars and consider mass transit to be reliable.
