More Centralized/Localized Transportation Systems

Our Metro rail systems are great, but they're not yet local enough. Los Angeles is too big to accommodate only 1 rail system with 1 hub. Far more lines and stops exist in the smaller physical areas of Manhattan and Boston. The closest Metro stop to my house is a 10-minute walk, much closer than many, but nothing when compared to other cities, where stops are much more accessible. I want to take the Metro, but it usually takes three times longer than driving (including walking time). The bus is more easily accessible, but not as enjoyable of a transportation experience.

We need high-speed rail with express service for people to travel longer distances within the city, and local rail or tram for shorter distances. I would love to jump on a train in Hollywood and get to the beach in 20 minutes. Or pop over the hill and be in the heart of Studio City in 10 minutes--the San Fernando Valley needs it's own Metro system to support its physical size and population!

Ultimately, dedicated public transport lines/lanes are what make it more desirable to use, but it needs to be accessible every few blocks.

I'm sure others could add to this idea with thoughts and improvements!
