Wider Bike Paths, wider Bike Lanes, and wider Physically Separated Bike Lanes (Cycle Tracks) One way paths and lanes should be 8.5 feet wide, and never less than 6.5 feet. Two way bike paths should be 15 feet wide and never less than 12 feet wide. They should be designed to allow two riders to ride next to each other (two abreast). This will encourage more riders not only because of the obvious safety and comfort advantages. It will let parents to ride next to (and guide) their children, and allow all bicyclist to communicate, making it more social and more enjoyable. Wider bike paths will allow for future increases in bike traffic. They should be designed for at least 150 bikes per hour.
