Cycling, walking and transit should be the predominate types of transportation in the core of the city. Putting in paint treatments on major streets for cycling is not adequate to attract a double digit modal share for bicycling. There needs to be requirements for cycle paths on major streets in order to make bicycling comfortable and attractive enough for the wealthy, female or youngest demographics. The Netherlands is the most successful industrialized country in getting their population to cycle. We should immulate their success instead of trying to follow the cities or countries that have obtained dismal results compared to the Dutch. |
