I often take the bus when I need to make longer trips across town. While the overcrowding doesn’t bother me so much, the monotone robotic voices announcing the various stops sometimes does. I propose a project where Metro funds local artists to go out into the communities surrounding each of its bus lines and record the names of bus stops from people who actually live or work near them, capturing the diversity of people who make Los Angeles an international city. Imagine taking the Wilshire Rapid from your home to your destination and hearing a variety of voices along the way that actually live, work or commute along the route.
