When I ride my bike to work every morning, I travel on two roads with so-called "Anti-Gridlock Zones," specifically Roscoe between De Soto and Winnetka and Nordhoff between Winnetka and Corbin. The reality of these places is that the right lane is used by two kinds of people: This makes for a bad combination. I find them much easier to ride after the posted no stopping hours when there are parked cars dividing the right lane. I would suggest that all of these "Side Street Super Highways" be repainted with bike lanes and parking. Bike lanes will reduce congestion AND improve safety, something these Anti-Gridlock Zones cannot claim. It would also increase parking, which would make local businesses and residents happy. It's a win-win for everyone... except maybe that speeding BMW. |
