Implement paired one-way streets. This can provide a number of benefits. It is easier to optimize signal timing on one-way streets; timing lights for a consistent, moderate speed can reduce "racing" to the next green light, as drivers know that a racing simply gets them to a red light, while a steady speed gets them a procession of green lights. Moving cars in "waves" on a one-way street makes it safer for pedestrians to cross at unsignalized intersection. Left-turning motorists don't need to cross opposing traffic. You don't need a center turn lane, freeing up roadway width for bike lanes and/or bus-only lanes. Possible candidates: Cahuenga & Vine from Franklin or Yucca to Melrose; 1st/Beverly & Temple from Alameda to Hoover; VanNess and Norton south from 101 Freeway.
