I live in Wilmington - Avalon Boulevard is lined with very tall Washingtonian Palms. They may look beautiful from a distance, but at close range they look like a pole.

I suggest hanging flower baskets be placed around the palm trees' trunks. In these baskets, colorful succulants should be planted.
