LAUSD distributes flyers to families indicating so-called safe routes to school. How about coordinating those routes with LADOT and ensuring that all of those routes include bike lanes that are physically protected from motorized traffic and wide, well-maintained sidewalks for pedestrians? Providing kids with good infrastructure to get to school would significantly reduce the congestion that surrounds routes to school, would help reduce childhood obesity, and just might get the next generation used to the idea of not needing to rely solely on cars in order to get around.
