The LA Times ran a recent story stating that L.A. wants homeowners to pay for desperately needed sidewalk repairs. Huh? Would we ask homeowners to pay for pothole repairs on their street?

L.A.'s so-called sidewalks are an embarrasment. The city stupidly planted trees that have huge roots that have pushed the concrete up and created a roller coaster ride for pedestrians.

If L.A. is serious about becoming a world-class city and changing the car culture, then they need to encourage more people to walk instead of driving and they need to fix the sidewalks.
